A challenge is posted on Mondays (easy), Wednesdays (medium) and Friday (hard). Solutions are submitted as spoiler-free comments in any programming language you want. I saw Cobol, ASM, lots of Python, etc.
This was highly recommended by two panelists from the Ruby Rogues episode featuring Gary Bernhardt . Just watched this later (02/26/2014) and it is fantastic.

This is what Ian Bicking is currently prototyping. It uses another really cool project he’s worked on at Mozilla called Together/JS. Hot dish (and TogetherJS) are tools that allow people to communicate with one another remotely while interacting with a web page or browser session.

The presentation was Thinking in Data by Alex Miller (based on or similar to his Enemy of the State talk, which was very good. The venue was the Riot Games office in Clayton, which was cool to see. The walls are decorated in art from League of Legends. It felt like a good crowd who was eager to learn.
Seeing a demo app, then a high-level overview of the messages & queues architecture made things clearer.
